
The Mary Baldwin women's tennis team blanked Greensboro College, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon for the Fighting Squirrels first conference win of the season.
Hannah Eastridge and Katlyn Massie got the day started with an 8-3 victory over Jada Orr and Natalie Habich at the No. 1 doubles spot. At No. 2 doubles, Lauren Hodgkins and Gretchen Lutz blanked Kilee Kemp and Gabriella Hunker 8-0.
Massie outlasted Orr in split sets to win the No. 1 singles match. Massie rallied after losing the first set 7-5 to even the match by taking the second set 7-6. Massie won the third-set tiebreaker 10-7 to take the point.
Lutz swept Habich 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles position and Alexis Seymore blanked Kemp 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 slot. Samantha Childs downed Hunker 6-1, 6-0 to take the point at No. 3.
MBU is now 4-9 overall on the season. Wednesday's victory was the first in conference play for the Squirrels since the 2017 season.
