
Mary Baldwin University Director of Athletics Tom Byrnes announced the addition of seven graduate assistants for the 2022-23 academic year, including:
Rene Ramirez is a 2022 graduate of Mary Baldwin University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences. Ramirez will serve as the graduate assistant men's soccer coach under first-year mentor Felipe Juarez. Ramirez was a four-year player in the midfield and defense for the Fighting Squirrels and was selected by his teammates to serve as the captain of the 2018 squad.
Brittany DeVane is a 2022 graduate of Piedmont (Ga.) University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Management. She will serve as a graduate assistant coach under MBU head women's basketball coach Meghan Austin. A four-year member of the women's basketball team, DeVane provided strong defense and rebounding for the Lions, who averaged 20 wins per season during her career.
Tevin Brown is a 2018 graduate of Longwood University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Finance concentration. He will serve as the graduate assistant men's basketball coach under third-year head coach Matt Griggs. Brown was a manager for the Division I Longwood Lancers and interned as a facility supervisor for the Philadelphia 76ers. Brown has coached on the youth level for several years, including a three-year stint as the varsity assistant coach at Southern Guilford High School.
Aubrey Wingaert, Quinland Musgrove and Tavian Brown are all graduate assistants for the men's and women's cross country and track & field teams and will support fourth-year head coach Wesley Arthur.
Wingaert is a 2022 graduate of Waynesburg (Pa.) University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology. Wingaert was a distance runner for the Yellow Jackets and holds the school records in the mile, 3,000 and indoor 5,000 meter runs. She was named an All-Region athlete in the 10K and was a two-time national qualifier in cross country.
Musgrove is a 2022 graduate of Mary Baldwin University, where she was a Honors List student and earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She was a member of the Fighting Squirrels cross country and track teams throughout her career, serving as a team captain three years, and holds numerous MBU team records. She was a two-time USA South Athletic Conference long jump champion and was second in the high jump two times. She was named the USA South Female Athlete of the Year in 2021 and the 2022 MBU Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Tavian Brown is a 2022 graduate of Mary Baldwin with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Brown was a thrower for the MBU men's track & field team the past few years, primarily in the javelin and shot put.
Luke Ackerman joined the Athletic Staff as a graduate assistant under MBU Sports Information Director Steve Cox. Ackerman is a graduate of York College (Pa.), where he earned his degree in Sport Management, and has served internships at YCP, Southern Virginia University, Washington & Lee University and Va. Military Institute.
