Mary Baldwin's late-game rally came up one run short Sunday afternoon as Mt. Aloysius escaped John Moxie Stadium with a 10-9 victory.

The Mounties jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Fighting Squirrels were up to the task, scoring single runs in each of the first four innings to move ahead, 4-3.

Michael Robertson led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and then stole second and third. Robertson scored on a sacrifice fly by Colby Cheatham to put the Squirrels on the scoreboard.

In the second, Gavin Rush walked, swiped second and scored on a Roberston base hit for Mary Baldwin's second run.

Cheatham tied the score with a solo homer in the third and MBU moved ahead in the fourth, 4-3, when Jared Mayhew was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Mounties pulled away to a 10-4 lead with four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, but the Squirrels were not finished.

MBU loaded the sacks in the seventh on singles by Mayhew, Dylan Rankin and Cheatham. Pinch-hitter Jacob Cude lined a single off the shortstop's glove, making the score 10-5.

In the eighth, Robertson walked, stole second and moved to third on a fly ball to the outfield. Tucker Hensley plated Robertson with a sac fly as the Squirrels inched closer, trailing 10-6 entering the ninth.

in the bottom of the ninth, Owen Marshall was hit by a pitch before pinch-hitter Chase Davis belted a tpwering two-rum homer to left-center, cutting the defict to 10-8. Rush reached on an error and Kessler walked to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate. Hensley kept the rally alive, grounding a two-out single up the middle, scoring Rush to pull the Squirrels to withon one run, 10-9. With two runeers on, the Mounties went to the bullpen and pitcher Andrew Lazor ended the comeback bid by recording s strikeout to save the 10-9 victory.

Robertson was 2-for-3 and also walked three times. Robertson also stole three bases. Cheatham was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Rankin and Marshall each finished with two hits.

Mary Baldwin, now 3-8, returns to action Tuesday when the Squirrels travel to Bridgewater College for a non-conference game.
