
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - Hamdpen Sydney jumped out to a 10-1 lead after three innings Wednesday afternoon and the Tigers went on to defeat Mary Baldwin, 12-3, in non-conference baseball action.
Mary Baldwin took the lead with a run in the top of the second inning. Colby Cheatham led off with a single and then with two outs, stole second. Cheatham scored on a double by Jacob Cude for a 1-0 MBU lead.
Hampden Sydney moved ahead with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and then took control with a six-run third inning to lead 10-1.
Noah Kessler, Tucker Hensley and Cheatham each finished with a 2-for-5 day at the plate and Cude went 2-for-3 for the Squirrels.
The Mary Baldwin bullpen pitched well with four pitchers - Hunter Zaun, Bradley Warren, Joseph Castrilli and Ty Webster - combining to allow just one run on two hits over the final four innings.
Mary Baldwin is back in action Thursday afternoon with a non-district game at Eastern mennonite.
