
Pfeiffer outscored Mary Baldwin 17-14 Sunday afternoon, bringing to a close, the 2022 baseball season for the Fighting Squirrels.
Pfeiffer jumped out to a 3-0 lead before MBU tallied twice in the bottom of the second on Noah Kessler's two-out, two-run single to pull the Squirrels to within 3-2.
Pfeiffer stretched its lead to 7-2, but the the Squirrels rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Michael Robertson and Tucker Hensley delivered back-to-bak doubles and Hensley later scored on an error, trimming the Falcons' lead to 7-4.
The Falcons led 11-4 in the sixth before Hensley's three-run double cut the deficit to to 11-7.
Pfieffer led 14-8 before Colby Cheatham hit a solo homer in the seventh and a two-run single in the eighth to keep the Squirrels within striking range, 14-10.
The visitors pushed the margin to 17-10 with three runs in the top of the ninth, but the Squirrels continued to battle and pulled to within 17-14 on a grand slam homer by Owen Marshall.
Hensley finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Marshall and Cheatham were both 2-for-5. Marshall drove in five runs and Cheatham had three RBIs. Robertson was on base in all six of his plate appearances. He was 2-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch three times.
