Squirrels Drop Pair At Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mary Baldwin traveled to Greensboro College Saturday in a doubleheader and lost the first game 17-8 and the second game 4-1.

In the offensive-heavy first game, The Pride struck first with a run in the bottom of the first before the Squirrels came back with two runs of their own in the second. Jared Mayhew, Will Earnesty, and Tyler Morley each drew a walk with two outs to load the sacks before Gavin Rush singled in two runs for a 2-1 MBU lead. In the bottom of the second, Greensboro took advantage of six consecutive walks to score eight runs to move ahead 9-2.

The Squirrels made continued efforts to climb back with a four-run inning in the fourth. Noah Kessler drove in a run with a single, Michael Barber added a two-run triple and Dylan Rankin plated a run with a groundout to pull MBU to within 12-6.

In the second game, the pitchers from both teams controlled the action as each team finished with seven hits. The Pride took the lead early with two runs in the second, before the Squirrels responded with their lone run in the fourth. Morley reached base on an error and moved to third base on a Josh Lallo double. A Tucker Hensley groundout scored Morley.

For the Squirrels, Lallo went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and Barber went 3-for-9 with a triple and 2 RBIs. MBU pitcher Ty Webster pitched a complete game in the second game of the day, tallying three strikeouts and keeping the Pride to just seven hits.
