Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Methodist

STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin baseball team lost both ends of Saturday's doubleheader to Methodist, losing the opener 16-2 and the second game 9-8

After losing the opener, MBU took the Monarchs to the limit in the second game.

The Squirrels fell behind early, 4-0, but rallied to take the lead with six runs in the fifth inning. Will Earnesty and Blake French each singled in the fifth and both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Both scored on Michael Robertson's single, cutting the Methodist lead in half at 4-2. Robertson scored on a single by josh Lallo and Dylan Rankin plated Lallo with a base hit, knotting the score at 4-4. With two outs and the bases full, Earnesty drove in two runs with a single to leftcenter, giving MBU a 6-4 lead.

MBU added two more runs in the sixth to lead 8-4. With one out, Robertson walked and moved around to third on a base hit by Noah Kessler. Lallo singled, scoring Robertson, and Kessler raced around to score on a throwing error from the outfield, giving the Squirrels a four-run lead.

Methodist scored one run in the seventh and two in the eighth to make it a one-run game and the Monarchs added two more in the ninth to take a 9-8 lead. MBU piut two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but could not push across the tying run.

MBU and Methodist will complete the three-game series Sunday afternoon.
