STAUNTON, Va. -The Mary Baldwin baseball team hosted N.C Wesleyan in baseball action Monday, completing the three-game series with a 5-4 loss.
In the first innings the Bishops jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the strength of two home runs.
The Squirrels battled back and scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Singles from JT Stevenson and Jacob Cude started the inning for the Squirrels and both advanced on a wild pitch. Noah Kessler scored both with a single to right, pulling the Squirrels to within 4-2.
The Squirrels struck again in the sixth inning when Colby Cheatham belted a solo home run to make it a one-run game. Gavin Rush drew a walk to kepp the inning alive and scored on Kessler's double totie the score at 4-4.
The Bishops scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and held on for the 5-4 win.
Kessler went 3-for-5 on the day with a double and three RBIs, Josh Lallo also went 3-for-5.
After the shaky first inning, starting pitcher Tucker Hensley blanked the Bishops over the next four innings. Relievers Cole Webster. Matthew Charles and Matthew Plotner combine to limit the visitors to one run oover the final four innings.
MBU will return to action when they host Ferrum on Wednesday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m.
