Baseball Completes Its 2023 Season

MISENHEIMER, N.C - The Mary Baldwin baseball team traveled to Pfeiffer in baseball action Saturday, completing the three-game series with a 4-1 and a 9-3 loss.

In the first game, the Falcons took control of the game with three runs in the sixth to lead 4-0.

The Squirrels scored their only run in the eighth. Kelly Hackley singled and took second on a balk. Dylan Rankin scored Hackley woith a single to trim the Pfeiffer lead to 4-1.

Ty Webster gave MBU a solid effort on the mound, allowing four runs in six innings on nine hits. He struck out six and walked one. Colby Cheatham finished with two scoreless innings. Will Earnesty had two hits in the opener for the Squirrels.

Pfeiffer took control of the second game early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Squirrels got on the board in the second inning. Will EArnesty was hit by a pitch and moved to second on Tyler Smiht's single through the left side of the infield. Both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Colby Cheatham and Earnestly scored on a groundout by Jared Mayhew.

The Falcons pulled away to a 9-1 lead before MBU scored its final two runs in the ninth. Jaocb Cude and Michael Robertson started the inning with singles. Noah Kessler singled.. scoring Cude, but Kessler was  throw out at second trying to stretch the hit into a double. Robertson then scored from third on a wild pitch, making the final score 9-3.

Kessler led MBU with three hits in Game 2 while Rankin, Cude and Smith each added two base hits.

Mary Baldwin finishes its season with a 4-34 record.
