CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Baldwin scorched the net for 54 points in the first half and the Fighting Squirrels led the entire second half to take a 90-74 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at Wilson College.
MBU led 54-43 at the break, but the Phoenix scored the first six points of the second half to trim the margin to five, 54-49. The Squirrels then responded with a 7-0 spurt to push the lead back to double digits, 61-49, and maintained the lead fhe rest of they way.
Four players reached double figures with Brett Asbury, Vernon Fraley and Quentin Hart each finishing the game with 19 points. Brandon Stoudamire chipped in with 16 points.
MBU shot 47.1 percent from the field, making 32-of-68 shots. That included an impressive 12-of-25 effort from 3-point range (48 percent). A big key in the MBU win was turnover margin as the Squirrels turned the ball over just five times compared to 20 miscues by the Phoenix.
Mary Baldwin, now 4-4 on the season, takes a break until Dec. 13 when the Squirrels make a short road trip to Bridgewater College to face the Eagles.
