
BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Mary Baldwin men's basketball team lost Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Bridgewater College, 82-80.
Sophomore forward Brandon Stoudamire went off for a team-high 18 points, making 7-of-14 shots from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from downtown He also gathered four rebounds and an assist. The Squirrels had four players in double digits points. In addition to Stoudamire, Vernon Fraley posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Quentin Hart added 16 points and Brett Asbury scored 15.
Mary Baldwin played back and forth in the first half. After falling behind early when the Eagles jumped out to a quick 14-7, the Squirrels fought back, taking the lead 33-28. Mary Baldwin kept that lead to go to the half ahead 47-40.
The Eagles started off the second half hot by taking the lead from the Squirrels 60-59, After 10 more lead changes the Eagles took the victory on Shod Smith's 3-pointer with 20 seconds left.
In the second half, the Squirrels outshot Bridgewater with a 44.8% clip (13-for-29) from the field and a 30% (3-for-10) effort from 3-point range. Bridgewater shot 44.14% (16-for-36) from the floor but a staggering 50% (6-for-12) from three to seal the win.
Bridewater's Alec Topper led all scorers with 23 points and Smith added 20.
The Fighting Squirrels are now 4-5 on the season while Bridgewater rises to 3-5.
MBU will travel Friday, December 16, to another ODAC team in Ferrum College where they will be playing at 5:00 pm.
