Balanced Scoring Leads MBU Past Ferrum

FERRUM Va. - The Mary Baldwin men's basketball team won Friday evening in non-conference action against Ferrum College. The Fighting Squirrels defeated the Panthers 85-72 and are now 5-5 on the season while Ferrum falls to 4-7.

The Squirrels had five players with double digits, led by wophomore guard Brett Asbury who scored 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Sophomore forward Vernon Fraley tallied 19 points, making 7-of-8 shots and an efficient 5-of-6 from three. Pat Malott and Jaden Ignacio each scored 11 points and Brandon Stoudamire added 10.

Mary Baldwin started out strong in the  first half with a 40-20 lead before going into the half ahead 46-33. After the half, the Squirrels kept the lead to finish the game on top 85-72

The efficient shooting Squirrels lost an advantage in rebounds by a 32-35 margin but showed great ball movement with a 16-5 lead in assists.

The Fighting Squirrels return to action when they will host Eastern Mennonite on December 30 at 4:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
