
STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin men's basketball team won Saturday evening in conference action against Methodist University. The Fighting Squirrels defeated the Monarchs 89-61 and are now 2-0 in the USA South conference standings while Methodist falls to 0-2.
The Squirrels had four players with double digits, Sophomore guard Quentin Hart led the team with 16 points shooting 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-7 from three. Brandon Stoudamire came off the bench for 15 points, making 5-of-6 shots and going 2-of-3 from downtown. Brett Asbury scored 14 points and Vernon Fraley had a double-double as he scored 12 points and gathered a game-high 12 rebounds.
Mary Baldwin started out the first half trailing 10-3 before taking the lead off of back-to-back three pointers from Stoudamire for a 19-15 lead. MBUnever looked back as the Squirrels entered the half ahead 53-27.
The Squirrel's defense restricted Methodist to shooting just 36.7% from the floor and 37.5% from three. The Squirrels had a great shooting night with a 54.4% from the field and 43.5 percent from three to push the lead. The Squirrels also held a large advantage in rebounds by a 47-22 margin.
The Fighting Squirrels will travel on Friday, January 13th to face Pfeiffer at 5:00 p.m. in conference action.
