Explosive Second Half Leads Squirrels To Win At Pfeiffer

STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin men's basketball team won Friday evening in conference action against Pfeiffer University. The Fighting Squirrels defeated the Falcons 79-59 and are now 3-0 in the USA South conference standings while Pfeiffer falls to 1-2.

The Squirrels had four players with double digits, Sophomore guard Jaden Ignacio led the team with 16 points shooting 6-for-10 from the field and 1-for-3 from three. Brandon Stoudamire shot for an efficient 14 points, shooting 50% from the field and 40% from downtown. Luke Ogle scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds to go along with three blocks. Quentin Hart followed with 12 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the field.

Mary Baldwin started out the first half going back and forth with the Falcons before taking a large lead early off a Hart 3-pointer and back-to-back jumpers from Ignacio for a 39-30 edge at the half. MBU took over in the second half with efficient shooting as the Squirrels outscored the Falcons 40-29 to end the game on top 79-59.

The Squirrels' defense restricted Pfeiffer to shooting 32.1% from the floor and 30.8% from three. The Squirrels had a good shooting night with a 49.2% from the field and 36.4% from three to take off in the second half. The Squirrels also held an advantage in rebounds by a 39-32 margin.

The Fighting Squirrels will travel to face William Peace on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in more conference action.
