Pacers Slip Past Squirrels, 77-73

STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin men's basketball team lost Friday evening in conference action against William Peace University (15-8). The Fighting Squirrels were defeated by the Pacers 77-73 and are now 7-4 in the USA South conference standings while William Peace rises to 9-3.

The Squirrels had three players with double digits, Brett Asbury lead the Squirrels with 25 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the field with a team-high four assists to go along with four rebounds.  Quentin Hart tallied 15 points shooting 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 from three while Brandon Stoudamire scored 12 points and collected a team-high six rebounds.

The Fighting Squirrels opened the first half falling behind 15-8, but the Squirrels fought back going back and forth with the Pacers until the end of the half before Vernon Fraley's three at the buzzer put the Squirrels up 41-35 at the half.

Out of the half, the Pacers quickly recovered the lead and had an eight-point lead until the Squirrels rallied again to take the lead 59-55 with eight minutes to play. The lead then changed multiple times before coming down to the final seconds. The Pacers were up just by two points before Beau Bryant's jumper with 11 seconds sealed the win for William Peace.

MBU shot 44.3% from the field and 27.8% from three compared to the Pacers 44.6% from the field and 31.8% from three. The Pacers outrebounded the Squirrels with 38 rebounds to the Squirrels' 34.

The Fighting Squirrels will return to action tomorrow (Feb, 11th) at 2:00 p.m. when they host Pfeiffer. The Falcons are 8-13 on the season and 4-6 in the USA South Conference.
