Squirrels Fall To Knights In USA South Tourney

STAUNTON, Va. - The season came to an end for the Mary Baldwin men's basketball team Tuesday evening with a loss to Southern Virginia, 77-63, in the first round of the USA South conference tournament.

The Squirrels were behind early 12-4 before roaring back to take a five-point lead off a Jaden Ignacio layup with nine minutes left in the first half. The Knights rallied and took control of the lead as the Squirrels went into the half down 33-26.

Out of the half, the Squirrels could not get much going on offense while the Knights were shooting 44.4% from 3-point range to build its lead.

The Squirrels had two players with double digits, Brandon Stoudamire led the Squirrels in points with 12 and Brett Asbury scored 11 on 4-for-6 shooting while also snagging five rebounds. Luke Ogle tallied a team-high seven rebounds and also scored nine points.

Mary Baldwin shot 37.9% (26-for-66) from the field and 22.6% (7-for-31) from behind the arc compared to the Knights's 49.1% (26-for-53) and 44.4% (8-for-18) from three. SVU controlled the boards by a 47-27 margin. 

In just its second sason as a varsity sport, MBU posted a 14-12 record, the first winning season for the program.
