HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University men' soccer program fell to Hampden-Sydney, 3-0, in a nonconference match up on Wednesday night.
The Fighting Squirrels are now even on the season at 1-1, while the Tigers improve to 1-2 overall.
The contest remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes as neither side could find the back of the net. In the second half, H-SC got on the board first after an own-goal by the Fighting Squirrels in the 60th minute. At the 64:54 mark, Cole Burton fired a shot past the MBU goalkeeper to add to the lead, 2-0, before Connor Shaw tallied an insurance goal in the 72nd minute as the Tigers held on to a 3-0 win.
H-SC held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and also outshot Mary Baldwin 24-3. In a physical game, a total of four yellow cards were handed out and the two teams combined for 36 fouls.
The Fighting Squirrels return to action on Saturday, Sept.7, as they travel to face Virginia Wesleyan beginning at 4 pm.
