
STAUNTON, Va. – Mary Baldwin dropped a close conference match Wednesday against Southern Virginia after a last minute score from the Knights won them the game.
Southern Virginia came out hot with a goal in the sixth minute, but the Squirrels answered just 41 seconds later when sophomore Edward Headley scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from freshman Yefferson Hernandez. The Knights then scored again in the 14th minute sending the Squirrels into the half down 2-1.
Mary Baldwin came out of the half dominating the ball and scored in th 50th minute when Hernandez dribbled past the defenders and hit the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
With just one minute left in the game, the Knights sealed the victory with their third goal of the day.
Mary Baldwin outshot the Knights 27-14 and lead in corners with a 7-6 margin.
The Squirrels return to action for their final game of the season Saturday (10/29) at 2:00 p.m. in Staunton for Senior day as the Squirrels will host N.C Wesleyan.
