
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Mary Baldwin men's tennis team ended its Spring break trip Tuesday with a tough 5-4 loss to Alfred University.
MBU trailed 2-1 after doubles play. Eric Leyton and Connor Lindhjem won at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6. Luis Monjes and Adrian Reyes lost a close match at No. 3 dubles, 8-6.
The Squirrels won three matches in singles play, but fell just short of the team win.
Leyton defeated Alfred's Mike Roberts in split sets 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) to take the victory at No. 1 singles. Lindhjem controlled play at the No. 2 slot with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Matthew Bittel. At the No. 4 singles position, Adrian Santiago defeated Mark Ungurian in spilt sets 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
The Squirrels' Noah Knick took Natthew Hibbert to three sets, lsoing a close match 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). Reyes also had a close call at No. 6, lsoing to Evan Kent, 8-6.
