Softball Falls Twice To Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall tallied 14 runs in each game Sunday to sweep a softball doubleheader from Mary Baldwin by scores of 14-6 and 14-8.

In the opener, F&M scored eight runs in the top of the first and never trailed.

Leanna Rankin, Emily Hall, and Allison Crum each had two hits for the Fighting Squirrels and Hall had two RBIs.

The Diplomats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at bat in Game 2, but this time MBU answered with five runs in the bottom of the first. Hall, Alexis Clark, McKaylee Shaffer and Olivia Gagne each produced a run-scoring single in the inning to help the Squirrels take a 5-3 lead.

The teams traded runs in the second with Clark adding another run-scoring single to keep the Squirrels out front, 6-4.

F&M took its first lead, 7-6, with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Clark drove in her third run of the game with a groundout to tie the score at 7-7.

The Diplomats moved  ahead 10-7 with a three-run fifth, but the Sauirrels continued to battle and loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with no outs. MBU, however, would add just one run on a sacrifice fly by Gagne to trail by two, 10-8.

F&M put the game away with four runs in the seventh to win 14-8.

Marybeth Strickler paced the Squirrels in Game 2 with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Clark was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Shaffer and Haley Roberts also finished with two hits each.
