
MISENHEIMER, N. C. - Mary Baldwin dropped both games of a conference doubleheader Saturday at Pfeiffer, losing the opener 7-1 and dropping the second game 6-5.
The MBU offense could not get untracked in the opener as the Squirrels were held to just five hits. Lenna Rankin had two of the hits.
In the second game, the Fighting Squirrels led 5-2, but Pfeiffer rallied late to take a 6-5 victory
Trailing 1-0 after Pfeiffer scored a run in the bottom of the first, Mary Baldwin took the lead with two runs in the second and then added two more in the third.
Mary Baldwin loaded the bases in the second on a double by Emily Hall, a walk to Lacey Morris and a single by Samantha Grimsley. A single by Maisie Spivey scored Hall to tie the score and Morris scored on a groundout by Molly Thompson to put the visitors ahead 2-1.
Marybeth Strickler singled to lead off the third inning for the Squirrels and stole second. Leanna Rankin then walked and Strickler stole third on ball four. Rankin swiped second and Strickler scored on the play on a throwing error by the catcher. Rankin scored on Hall's sacrifice fly for a 4-1 Squirrels' lead.
The Falcons scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Mary Badlwin responded with a run in the sixth. Spivey walked and Thompson followed with a triple to put MBU ahead 5-2.
Pfeiffer scored three runs in the sixth to tie the score and then pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Hal and Spivey each had two hits to lead the Squirrels in Game 2.
