
The Mary Baldwin softball team dropped a pair of games to William Peace in conference action Saturday afternoon, losing the opener 10-0 before dropping the second game 9-4.
The visitors scored four runs in the top of the first inning and four more in the second and went on the blank the Squirrels 10-0 in five innings in the first game.
In Game 2, Mary Baldwin trailed 2-0 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the third innng to take the lead. With one out, Leanna Rankin walked and stole second before scoring on a single by Maisie Spivey to put the Squirrels on the scoreboard. Hadley May reached on a fielder's choice with Spivey advancing to third on the play due to a throwing error. With runners on the corners, Spivey and May pulled off a double steal with Spivey scoring to tie the score at 2-2. A double by Emily Hall put runners at second and third before a base hit by Allison Crum scored May to give the Squirrels a 3-2 lead. A sacrifice fly by Lacey Morris plated another run to put MBU on top 4-2.
The lead did not last long as the Pacers responded with six runs in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead. Megan McAnany's grand slam home rwsa the key blow for the Pacers.
Hall was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Squirrels in Game 2.
