Softball Wins Two At Ferrum

ERRUM, Va. - Mary Baldwin softball went on the road Wednesday and took on Ferrum College, winning the first game 5-4 and the second 8-6.

In the first game, Ferrum led 1-0 after four innings and kept the Squirrels to just two hits until the fifth inning when Mary Baldwin scored three  runs to take the lead. Isabella O'Bannion singled to score Allison Crum and Olivia Gagne followed with a triple, plating Jenna Dimiceli and O'Bannion.

The Panthers fought back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth with a home run by Panthers' pitcher Lyndsey Sears.

The Squirrels rallied in the fifth when Sam Charles homered, driving in Hadley May who walked earlier in the inning, making the score 5-4.

Reagan Frazier pitched a clutch 2.2 innings in which the Panthers scored no runs off of four hits to secure the win for the Squirrels.

In the second game of the day, The Panthers leaped out to an early lead after a four-run first inning.

The Squirrels answered in the top of the second when the team kept the line moving with five straight hits. May, Charles, Crum, O'Bannion, and Sam Grimsley all tallied hits as the Squirrels pulled even at 4-4. 

The Panthers followed up with two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-4 lead. Ferrum held the lead until the final inning when Mary Baldwin took the lead. May singled to score a run and Allison Crum delivered a two-outm two-run double to give MBU the lead Grimsley added a run-scoring hit for an 8-5 Squoirrels' advantage.. 

Three scoreless innings by Emily McCreery in which she only allowed three hits accompanied by three strikeouts and no walks allowed the Squirrels to climb back and take the win against Ferrum.

MBU is back in action Saturday (March. 4th) when the team travels to Raleigh, N.C., to play against Kean at 12 noon and Denison at 2:00 p.m. in the William Peace Triangle Softball Classic Tournament.
