Mary Baldwin infielder Sam Charles was named the USA South Athletic Conference Softball Rookie of the Week by the conference office.

The freshman infielder from Staunton, Va., was a combined 6-for-16 (.375) with a .444 on-base percentage and a .563 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, five RBI, and one home run as the Fighting Squirrels posted a 5-1 record last week. In the first game of the week, a 5-4 win over Ferrum, Charles hit her first career home run in the bottom of the fifth inning which put the Fighting Squirrels out in front for good. Another good outing from Charles was in a 5-3 victory over Kean where she was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
