
Raleigh, NC - Meredith College capitalized on Mary Baldwin turnovers this afternoon and defeated the Fighting Squirrels 71-35 in USA South Conference play.
Kaybria Johnson gave Mary Baldwin a 9-8 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Meredith then answered with a 19-0 run to lead 27-9 with five minutes remaining in the half.
The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half and Meredith held a comfortable 35-17 lead going into the locker room.
Johnson led Mary Baldwin with 14 points at the half while Brittaney Rice tallied 12 for Meredith. Meredith shot 51.9% from the floor and 41.7% from behind the arc.
Meredith's offense cooled in the second half but the Avenging Angels continued to build their lead throughout the final 20 minutes.
Throughout the game, Meredith controlled the boards and scored 40 points off of Mary Baldwin turnovers.
Brittany Rice led Meredith with 14 points. She was followed by Raven Gregory with 11 points.
Mary Baldwin was led by Kaybria Johnson who finished with a game-high 18 points. Ayanni Seay added 6.
Teanna Peavy grabbed 9 rebounds for the Fighting Squirrels.
Mary Baldwin College 0-22 (0-16 USAS) travel to Ferrum College on Wednesday before wrapping up the season next weekend at home.
