
STAUNTON, VA - N.C. Wesleyan College defeated Mary Baldwin College 69-41 this evening in USA South women's basketball action.
The Battling Bishops slowly built their lead in the first half finishing the period with a 6-0 run to best the Fighting Squirrels 30-13 in the opening 20 minutes. Jordan Cager went 5-7 from the floor in the first 20 minutes and tallied 11 points. She was followed by Netaih Davis with 8. Davis also grabbed 7 rebounds.
Kaybria Johnson led Mary Baldwin with 6 points and 8 rebounds.
The second half proved to be more of the same as Mary Baldwin simply couldn't capitalize on their opportunities while N.C. Wesleyan College took advantage of Mary Baldwin turnovers and converted on several fastbreak opportunities. Mary Baldwin shot better from beyond the arc and also coverted at the charity stripe but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficite built in the first half.
Kenyata Harris led N.C. Wesleyan College with a game-high 17 points. She was closely followed by Netaih Davis (15), Alexis Fitzgerald (13), and Jordan Cager (13).
Davis and Harris also controlled the boards finishing with 16 and 15 rebounds respectively.
The Fighting Squirrels were led by Kaybria Johnson who finished with 14 points. Jazmine Brooks added 9 points while Imani Hill chipped in 7.
Tejava Ivory grabbed 10 rebounds for MBC while Johnson added 9.
Mary Baldwin College 0-24 (0-17 USAS) play their final home game of the season Sunday afternoon. The Fighting Squirrels celebrate Senior Day just before tipoff at 2:00PM.
