William Peace Edges MBC

Raleigh, NC - William Peace University edged out Mary Baldwin College 71-59 this afternoon in women's basketball.  The Pacers built an eleven point lead in the first half and held on to take the win.

Mary Baldwin College jumped out to an early 6-0 lead.  William Peace then tied the game at the 13:28 minute mark at eight all.  Then,  leading 22-20, KA'LA Jordan sank a 3-point shot and Derrica Jones followed with a layup to give the home team a 27-20 lead with 4:10 remaining in the half.  Peace controlled the final minutes and led 35-24 at the break.

Although Mary Baldwin shot better in the first half, Peace created more opportunites and also found some success behind the arc.

Mary Baldwin pulled to within four at the start of the second half when Ayanni Seay sank a free throw at the 16:36 mark.  The Pacers then went on  a 7-0 run to build an 11 point lead. 

The Fighting Squirrels refused to give up and tied the game again at the 11:56 mark.  The two teams traded baskets and found themselves tied for the third time at 55 with only 4:43 remaining. 

KA'LA Jordan then sank two 3-point shots and Derrica Jones added a layup to give Peace a six point lead.  Alexis Armstrong added a jumper to give the Pacers a comfortable lead.  With two minutes remaining, Mary Baldwin was forced to foul and Peace converted at the free throw line and took the win.

Derrica Jones led William Peace with 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  She was followed by KA'LA Jordan with 16 points and Alexis Armstrong with 14 points.

Mary Baldwin finished the day with their best shooting percentage of the year converting on 46% of their attempts from the floor.

Mary Baldwin's Kaybria Johnson led all scorers with 23 points.  She was followed by Teanna Peavy with 8 points and Imani Hill and Tejava Ivory with 7 each.

Peavy also grabbed 13 rebounds for the Fighting Squirrels.

Mary Baldwin College 0-21 (0-15 USAS) faces Meredith College Sunday afternoon.  Tip-off is 2:00pm.
