STAUNTON, VA - The Ferrum Panthers improved their record to 2-5 (1-0 USAS) this evening with an 80-40 win over Mary Baldwin College in women's basketball.
Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 8-2 lead behind two three-point shots by Rakeema Willis and a basket by Kaybria Johnson. The Panthers answered with a layup and two baskets from behind the arc to take a 10-8 lead. Ferrum never again gave up the lead as they posted a 17-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
In the second period, Mary Baldwin went cold scoring just 6 points while Ferrum shot over 40% from the floor adding to their lead.
The second half proved to be more of the same as Ferrum took advantage of Mary Baldwin turnovers which gave them easy baskets in the paint. Ferrum shot almost 50% from the floor and finished with almost half (35) of their points coming off of Mary Baldwin turnovers.
The visitors also took advantage of their strength inside scoring 30 points in the paint.
Ferrum was led by Maggie Wilbourne who came off the bench to score 14 points. Krista Cox followed closely with 13. Staunton native Kemani Crawford grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Mary Baldwin was led by Kaybria Johnson who led all scorers with 24 points. Teanna Peavy led the team with 8 rebounds. Tchelsea Jones added 7 boards.
Mary Baldwin College 0-5 (0-1 USAS) travel to North Carolina on Saturday to take on Greensboro before taking a break for exams.
