
STAUNTON, VA - Meredith College used a dominate inside game to defeat Mary Baldwin 99-63 in women's basketball this afternoon.
The visitors built a ten point lead in the first half while shooting 44.2% from the floor. Despite trailing after the first 20 minutes, it was one of Mary Baldwin's best halves as they shot 37.1% from the floor and tallied 35 points which is their highest this season.
The Fighting Squirrels simply couldn't stop the Avenging Angels who scored 66 of their 99 points in the paint. Meredith also controlled the boards finishing with 68 rebounds to Mary Baldwin's 33.
Meredith used a balanced scoring attack with six players in double figures. Raven Gregory grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds to go along with her 18 points. Jessi Hayes also tallied a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 18 rebounds while teammate Kim Hinton grabbed 11 boards and scored 16 points.
Mary Baldwin was lead by Kaybria Johnson who tallied a game-high 25 points while freshman Juanaysa Singletary posted her best game of the year scoring 21 points.
Teanna Peavy led the team in rebounding with 8 boards.
After the game, head coach Andrew Stephens said, "I thought it was the best first half we have played all year. We struggled to guard them all game. They shot the ball well. They outworked us on the glass which is something we have to work on. We are definitely getting better. We just have to put it together for 40 minutes."
Mary Baldwin College 0-12 (0-4 USAS) host Averett University on Wednesday.
