
STAUNTON, VA - The Randolph College Wildcats defeated Mary Baldwin University 86-40 this afternoon in women's basketball.
Randolph College trailed early but used a full court press to create easy baskets and take the lead 9-8 at the 5:30 minute mark in the first quarter. The visitors used the pressure defense to build their lead to 22-10 after the period.
The Fighting Squirrels attacked the Wildcats going to the charity stripe 15 times in the second quarter but could only convert on 53%.
At the half, Mary Baldwin tallied 26 turnovers but outrebounded the visitors 21-18.
Randolph controlled the second half outscoring Mary Baldwin 34-9 in the third period. The Wildcats went 10 for 11 from the free throw line and shot 60% from the floor in the period.
Randolph's balanced scoring attack was led by Alexis Callaway who finished the day with a double-double 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Aayana Need led Mary Baldwin's offense with 9 points. Kaitlyn Crews followed closely with 8 points while Anna Ramirez added 7. Khai Davidson grabbed 11 rebounds for the Fighting Squirrels while Nicole Blackburn finished with 8.
Mary Baldwin, 1-7, will take a break then return to take on Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg on December 30.
