
STAUNTON, VA - Roanoke College defeated Mary Baldwin University 78-47 this afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
In the first half, Roanoke outscored Mary Baldwin 32-25 shooting 42% from the floor. The Fighting Squirrels were close behind shooting 40% from the floor and controlled the boards outrebounding the visitors 22-18.
Roanoke used a full court press in the third quarter to take control of the game. The visitors outscored the Fighting Squirrels 29-7 in the period. Mary Baldwin bounced back in the 4th quarter, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
Roanoke's balanced scoring attack was led by Cary Beahm who tallied a double-double today scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 boards.
Mary Baldwin was led by Khai Davidson who scored 14 points for the home team. Nicole Blackburn led the team in rebounds with 9. Davidson Indya Branch grabbed 7 rebounds each. Kaitlyn Crews added 9 points shooting 50% from behind the arc.
After the game, head coach Andrew Stephens said, "We played a solid first half against a really good team. We just have to get better at putting two good halves of basketball together. Credit Roanoke, they did a nice job in the 3rd and 4th quarters. We will continue to work to get better."
Mary Baldwin University, 1-6, will take a break next week for exams before hosting Randolph next Saturday at 2 pm.
