
MACON, GA - The Mary Baldwin University basketball team defeated Wesleyan College (GA) 43-42 this afternoon in a USA South matchup.
The Fighting Squirrels jumped out to a 11-2 lead after the first quarter then battled in the second quarter to take a 30-21 lead into the half.
The home team came back in the 3rd quarter outscoring Mary Baldwin 16-8 to pull to within one point. The final period proved to be a defensive struggle and Mary Baldwin walked away with the win.
Anna Ramirez led all scorers with 15 points. Kaitlyn Crews followed closely with 12 and Khai Davidson added 9 points and 9 rebounds. Nicole Blackburn also grabbed 9 boards for the Fighting Squirrels.
After the game, Head Coach Andrew Stephens said, "Today is a great day for our basketball program. We showed some toughness at a challenging place to play. This is a sign of progress. We just have to keep working hard to get where we want to be."
Mary Baldwin University, 1-3, take on Emory University tomorrow before returning home.
