Fighting Squirrels Take Down Methodist for Third Straight Win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Mary Baldwin University women's basketball defeated Methodist University 63-51 on Sunday afternoon, for its third straight win.

Brooke Anders led MBU (4-4, 4-4 USA South) with 15 points and shot 5-of-8 from three. Jalen Gathers added 14 for the Fighting Squirrels and shot 5-of-9 from the field.

A 17-4 run fueled a strong start for MBU as they gained a 14 point lead midway through the second quarter.

The Fighting Squirrels took a 33-20 lead into the half after Methodist (0-6, 0-6 USA South) had just cut the lead to single-digits.

MBU began the third quarter on a 13-5 run. A layup by A'Cetta Farrait at the 9:21 mark of the fourth gave them a 25 point lead, their largest of the game, at 55-30.

A late push by the Monarchs saw them end the fourth quarter on an 11 point run before falling short on time.

The Fighting Squirrels shot 22-of-50 (40 %) from the field and 6-of-17 (35. 3%) from three.

On the defensive side, Mary Baldwin recorded five blocks, three of which came from Lauren Hall. The freshman also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Methodist shot 18-of-54 (33.3%) on the day. MBU kept them quiet from deep as they were just 2-of-18 (11.1 %) from beyond the arch. LeTrice Pearson led the Monarchs with 13 points.

The Fighting Squirrels next game is on Friday as they travel to Pfeiffer for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
