
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro College outscored Mary Baldwin 20-11 in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon to take a 71-54 victory over the Fighting Squirrels in USA South Athletic Conference action.
Greensboro jumped out to a 25-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but MBU fought back in the second quarter.
The Squirrels scored the first nine points of the second quarter to pull with three. Kayla Sessoms started the second period with a three-point play and Hannah Varner added two foul shots to pull MBU to within seven points, 25-18. A jumper by A'Cetta Farrait and a layup by Jalen Gathers trimmed the margin to three points, 25-22.
A bucket by Demet Saygili pulled the Squirrels to within a point, 31-30, but the Pride scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 36-30 at halftime.
Greensboro led by eight points at the end of three quarters, but an early MBU spurt in the final quarter closed the margin to four. Mya Coleman knocked down a jumper and Mary Moran added a layup to close the Greensboro lead to 51-47 with 8:49 left in the game, but the Squirrels would get no closer as the Pride pulled away for the victory.
Coleman came off the bench to lead MBU with 14 points and Saygili added 11.
The Squirrels ate noe 5-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
