
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - A cold-shooting second quarter proved to be the difference Saturday as the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels dropped a conference contest on the road at North Carolina Wesleyan College, 76-58.
Mary Baldwin trailed by just a single point, 15-14, after one quarter, but N.C. Wesleyan expanded its cushion in the seconad quarter, outscoring MBU 22-9 to lead 37-23 at the break. The Fighting Squirrels made just 3-of-13 shot attempts in the second quarter, while the Bishops hit on 8-of-15 shots.
Jalen Gathers paced the Squirrels with 12 points while Mary Moran and Demet Saygili each finished with 11 points.
MBU, now 9-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference, returns to action Tuesday when the Squirrels host Greensboro.
