
STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin women's basketball team took on Roanoke College in non-conference action Friday evening. The Fighting Squirrels took their second loss of the season, 96-58, and fell to 0-2, while Roanoke improved to 1-0.
Junior MBU guard Mya' Coleman led all scorers with 25 points abd also added six rebounds. Sophomore Mekayla Clarke also had a solid performance for the Fighting Squirrels, tallying 15 points along with a team-high nine rebounds and three steals for the Squirrels
The Maroons had two of their starters score in double digits, Rose Sande posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists.
To start the first quarter of play, the Fighting Squirrels had a slow start and ended the quartertrailing 23-5. However, the Squirrels came out hot in the second quarter putting up 24 points to the Maroons's 25.
As a team the Fighting Squirrels connected on 35.4% (17-48) from the field. Also, MBU shot 25% (2-8) from three while Roanoke shot 8.3% (1-12). Mary Baldwin was outrebounded 41-53 by Roanoke.
The Fighting Squirrels will return to action on Wednesday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the PAC when they host No. 4 ranked Christopher Newport.
