MBU Falls to No. 6 CNU

STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin women's basketball fell to Christopher Newport, the No. 6 team in Division III, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. The Fighting Squirrels took their third loss of the season 86-36 to fall to 0-3 while Christopher Newport improved to 4-0.

Junior guard Mya' Coleman tallied a team-high 12 points for MBU. Coleman also grabbed seven rebounds, tying freshman Gianna Gilmore for most on the team.

Freshman guard Imari Knight shot efficiently for the Squirrels with 9 points by going 3-for-6 (50%) from the field and a perfect 2-for-2  from 3-point range.  

As a team, the Fighting Squirrels connected on 32.7% (16-for-49) from the field. Also, MBU shot 25.0% (2-for-8) from three. Christopher Newport stopped the Squirrels with their efficient shooting as they shot 42.6% from the field, including 27.8% (5-18) from 3-point land. Mary Baldwin tied CNU in rebounds 38-38.

The Fighting Squirrels will return to action Saturday afternoon for the first round of the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament where MBU will face Mary Washington at 6:00 p.m.
