BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard broke open a close game Friday by outscoring Mary Baldwin 22-5 in the third quarter en route to a 63-46 victory over the Fighting Squirrels in conference action.

Brevard jumped out to 15-8 lead after one quarter, but MBU battled the hosts on even terms in the second quarter to trail by just six, 29-23, at the half. 

A layup by Mekayla Clarke had MBU within four points, 17-13, with 6:46 left in the first half, but Brevard built the margin back to double digits at 23-13. The lead was still 10 points, 29-19, but Imari Knight notched two buckets to pull MBU to within six, 29-23, at the half.

Mary Baldwin trailed by just eight points, 34-26, with eight minutes left in the third quarter, but the Squirrels failed to score from the field during the final eight minutes of the quarter as Brevard pulled away for a 51-28 lead.

A'Cetta Farrait led the Squirrels with 18 points. Knight posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

MBU is back in aciton Saturday afternoon at Pfeiffer.
