STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin University soccer team hosted Hollins University this afternoon in their home opener.
In the first half, Hollins outshot Mary Baldwin 14-4 but tough defense held both teams scoreless in the first 45 minutes.
In the 63 minute mark, Hollins got on the scoreboard when Alexis McDonough scored her first goal of the season unassisted. Hollins added a second goal three minutes later when Miranda Springston shot from 10 feet out. It was Springston's first goal of the season as well.
Mary Baldwin battled back at the 82 minute mark when Tailor Foreman drove down the field to bring Mary Baldwin to within one.
In the final minutes, the Fighting Squirrels created opportunites to score but Hollins denied them each time and took the 2-1 win.
Brittany Tenn remained in the goal for Mary Baldwin for the entire 90 minutes and tallied 19 saves. Hollins Hannah Armstrong finished with 11.
Mary Baldwin University (0-2) host Johnson and Wales Friday afternoon at 4:00pm.
