STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University women's soccer team hosted Trinity (D.C.) on Wednesday afternoon. The Fighting Squirrels took home a victory in the season finale, 8-0.

The Fighting Squirrels finish the season 6-12 and 1-7 in the conference, the most wins for the program in recent history. Their conference win against Averett on October 23 was the first USA South win for the team since the 2011 season.

Mary Baldwin opened the scoring effort in the fourth minute with a goal from Elena Guy, scoring from just within the 18-yard box. After nearly 20 minutes of scoreless action, Annie Ammons scored her first goal of the contest, when she took a cross, shook the defender and ripped a shot upper-90, 2-0. The third goal of the game was scored by Marisol Mercado who blasted a shot outside of the box.

After halftime, Ammons kept the scoring effort going, scoring her second goal of the afternoon. Guy followed up Ammons with her second goal in the 51st minute. Neriam Melendez scored her first goal of the season in the 75th minute, 6-0 while Caroline Metivier scored in the 83rd minute.

Counting down the final seconds of the game, Kaiden Scanlon crossed the ball into the box to Sam Manfre who headed the ball into the net for her first goal of the season with one-tenth of a second left on the clock.

The Fighting Squirrels outshot the Tigers 52-10 and took 15 corners to Trinity's zero.

Anyka Wilkin got the win in net, improving to 6-12 on the season, while Emily Andino took the loss tallying 23 saves.

Guy finished the season as the leading scorer for the team, registering 11 goals in her first season with the Fighting Squirrels. Ammons finished as the second leading scorer, collecting nine goals for the team in her first collegiate season.
