
STAUNTON, Va – Mary Baldwin sophomore midfielder Isabelle Fraher scored the winning goal Thursday evening when she kicked an unassisted goal from more than 30 yards out in the first half to lift the Fighting Squirrels to a 1-0 victory over Ferrum in the team's first game of the season.
Mary Baldwin showed a strong defensive effort highlighted by keeper Anyka Wilkin. In the 63rd minute, Wilkin laid out on a penalty kick and made the save to keep the lead for the Squirrels.
Ferrum held an edge in shots with 17-12 and corners 5-2, but the Squirrels defense proved stronger with six saves from Anyka Wilkins.
