
STAUNTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin scored two goals in the first six minutes of the second half Saturday afternoon to defeat Pfeiffer 2-0 in the USA South women's soccer opener for both teams.
After a scoreless first half, the Squirrels scored just 20 seconds into the second half when Sara Gruntowicz scored from the left wing for the first goal of the game. just minutes later, Sam Manfre scored from deep, making the score 2-0.
The MBU back line kept play clean in front of Maddy Vinson as the Squirrels' keeper faced just two shots and needed to make just one save on the day to record the shutout.
Mary Baldwin held a 21-2 edge in shots and a 9-0 advantage in corners.
The Squirrels, now 6-2-1 on the season, return to action Wednesday when they host former USA South member Averett University.
