BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Mary Baldwin women's soccer team took on Southern Virginia in conference action Tuesday night and suffered a 2-1 defeat. Southern Virginia scored out of the gate in the fourth minute and then again in the first two minutes of the second half.  

Mary Baldwin answered the second SVU score with its own goal in the 51st minute when junior Quierra Hawkins broke through the defense to score her third goal of the season, pulling the Squirrels to within 2-1.

The Knights outshot the Squirrels 20-3 and held an advantage in corners, 5-2

Mary Baldwin, 11-6-1 overall, is now 5-3 in the USA South standings and is tied for third with William Peace. Southern Virginia jumps to second place in the conference after the win.

The Squirrels return to conference action Saturday, (Oct. 29) at 2:00 pm when they travel to N.C Wesleyan in a critical USA South matchup. N.C Wesleyan has a 7-9 record on the season and a 4-4 conference record.
