
The Mary Baldwin women's tennis team split two matches Saturday, losing in conference play to Methodist 8-1 and edging Ferrum 5-4 in a non-conference match.
Liz Wine pitcjed up the lone point for MBU against Methodist, winning at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-2.
The Squirrels jumped out to an early lead against Ferrum, winning two important doubles points.
MBU took the point at No. 1 doubles behind an 8-5 victory from Hannah Eastridge and Gretchen Lutz. Lauren Hodgkins and Kelly Bantel earned the point at No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 win.
Mary Baldwin clinched the 5-4 team victory by splitting the singles matches, winning two of the contests in split sets.
Eastridge picked up a win at No. 3 singles 7-5, 6-0 over Ferrum's Madison Wright. Bantel outlasted Ferrum's Morgan Hundley at No. 5 singles, winning 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5) and Wine edged Emma Loughery 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).
MBU also lost two singles matches in split sets. Hodgkins lost at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-7, 0-1 (9-10) to Ferrum's Esme Atkinson and MBU's Alexis Seymore lost a tough match at No. 2 to the Panthers' Megan Scott 6-3, 4-6, 0-1 (6-10)
