The Mary Baldwin women's tennis team closed out its season Friday, losing a tough match to Salem College, 6-3.
The Squirrels were swept in doubles play in three competitive matches.
At No. 1 doubles, MBU's Gretchen Lutz and Hannah Eastridge lost 8-4 to Haley Gilley and McKinley Rice. At No. 2 MBU's Alexis Seymore and Samantha Childs lost 8-3 to Alyssa Cossentino and Alyson Gammons. The Squirrels duo of Summer Wendt and Liz Wine fell at No. 3 to Ashley Linden and Gina Franco, 8-4.
Mary Baldwin won three of the six singles matches. At No. 3 Eastridge rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cossentino. Hodgkins took a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over Gammons at the No. 4 slot. At No. 6, Childs defeated Linden 6-4, 6-3.
MBU's Kelly Bantel lost a close match at No. 5, falling in split sets to Franco 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
