
HILTON HEAD. S.C. - The Mary Baldwin women's tennis team closed out its spring break trip with losses to Messiah and Alfred.
On Monday, the Fighting Squirrels lost to Messiah 8-0.
MBU was competitive in doubles play, losing two close matches. Hannah Eastridge and Virani Bhagat lost at No. 1 doubles 806 while Lauren Hodgkins and Liz Wine fell at No. 2 doubles by the same margin.
Eastridge also played a strong match at No. 1 singles, losing to Messiah's Kasi Conjack in split sets. The two players split the first two sets by the same 7-5 score before Conjack won the tiebreaker 10-6 to take the match.
At No. 5 singles, MBU's Savannah Trujillo played a solid match in an 8-5 loss to Angela Tozzi. At No. 6 singles MBU's Lairen Byrnes was tied with Messiah's Anna Lentz 6-6 when play was suspended.
MBU closed its trip Tuesday with a 6-3 loss to Alfred.
Byrnes and Trujillo turned in a strong effort at No. 2 doubles, losing by a score of 8-6. Wine piacked up a win in singles play, defeating Claire Lander 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
The women are back in action Thursday when they host Penn State-Abington.
