STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest to Hollins in the Physical Activities Center on Wednesday night.
The Fighting Squirrels sit at 1-4 on the year, while Hollins improves to 3-2 overall.
Leading MBU offensively was Rachel Christian, who was named USA South Rookie of the Week on Monday, as she finished with 12 kills, while Michaela Beverly was close behind with 10. Deborah Black also registered seven of her own. Emma Tomlinson finished with a team-best 29 assists, while Madison Cash led the way with 27 digs. Christian garnered 21 to record another kill/dig double-double.
For Hollins, Kiki Speights finished with 10 kills to lead the team, while Hannah Arthur dropped in seven kills. Tyler Sesker, Kenna Esquibel and Courtney Chappell all registered six kills in the win. Casey Mahan added 22 assists, while Zoe Brooks finished with 13 assists. Defensively, Hannah Piatak garnered 35 digs, which was a team high, while Amanda Mink finished with 15.
The Fighting Squirrels return to action this weekend at the Maroon Classic, hosted by Roanoke College, on Sept. 6 and 7.
