LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball team played a pair of matches at a nonconference tri-match, hosted by University of Lynchburg on Saturday.
In the first match of the day, the Fighting Squirrels fell to Southern Virginia, 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 10-25, 16-25), and ended the day with a 3-0 loss to Lynchburg (18-25, 23-25, 26-24).
Against SVU, Rachel Christian paced the team offensively with 10 kills, while Michaela Beverly recorded nine kills on a .318 hitting percentage. Emma Tomlinson finished with 22 assists, while Brittany Sharon led the team with 18 digs. Christian also collected 15 digs to go along with a block. Tomlinson dropped in three service aced and pitched in four block assists in the loss.
In the second match of the day, MBU was again led by Christian with 16 kills on .240 hitting, while adding eight digs. Tomlinson registered 27 assists to lead the game as she also finished with three block assists. Jenifer Ford dropped in three service aces as Cash also recorded a pair of aces.
Defensively, Sharon led the team with 12 digs and Cash was right behind her with 11 digs. Madison Varner added four total blocks to go along with four kills.
The Fighting Squirrels are back in action as they return home for the first time in nearly a month when they host Greensboro on Wednesday, Sept. 25, beginning at 7 pm in the PAC.
