Michelle Johnson, a longtime youth coach in the Staunton area, has been named assistant coach of the Mary Baldwin University volleyball team.
Johnson, who was a four-year starting middle blocker during her collegiate career at Rider University in Lawrence, N.J., has coached on the scholastic level for seven years, where her teams compiled a 102-18 regular season record and a 7-3 mark in the post-season. She has also coached locally in the ACTS youth program, primarily an Elite 18 travel squad.
She will be assisting second-year head coach Jody Lohr, who guided the Fighting Squirrels to five victories after taking over the reigns of the team just a few weeks before the start of the 2021 season.
