
STAUNTON, Va. - The Mary Baldwin volleyball squad fell in its match Friday to Regent, losing to the Royals in four sets. Regent won the match 25-15, 18-25, 25-20, 25-13.
After losing the opening set, the Squirrels battled back to even the match. MBU jumped out to an early lead in the second set and pulled away as kills by Jaci McAlwee and Megan Andrews put the home team on top 18-11. Rachel Christian took a set from Leah Sherrill and put down a kill for the final point as the Squirrells evened the match with a 25-18 win is the second set.
Regent took the early lead in the third set, but a pair of Royals' attack errors allowed the Squirrels to pull within a point, 18-17. Regent, however, reeled off the next six points in a row to lead 24-17 before closing out the set 25-20.
The Royals broke open the fourth set, scoring eight unanswered points to open up a 23-8 lead.
Christian led MBU with nine kills, followed by Andrews with eight and McAlwee wth seven. Sherrill dished out 15 assists with Emily Penny close behind with 14 assists. Soleil Rios Rolon led the team with eight digs.
MBU is back in action Saturday at Eastern Mennonite University with matches against EMU and Lancaster Bible.
